Budget Concerns: How Much Insurance is Enough?

3 Reasons Your Auto-Insurance Premiums Have Increased

Dustin Duncan

If you are like many individuals, you own a car and need to carry auto insurance. You might notice over time that your insurance premiums have actually become more expensive even though you expected them to drop. Here are some reasons that your insurance premiums are more expensive and why that is okay because you still have great coverage.

1. You Live in an Area with High Traffic and Lots of Accidents

One thing many people do not understand is that where you live will greatly affect how much you pay in auto insurance. For example, if you live in a city where there is lots of traffic, and you commute every day to work, your insurance will be higher than that of someone who lives in a rural part of the country and only drives their car for pleasure. The odds of your getting in a car crash are much higher than the odds of the person who lives in the rural community. In addition, the insurance company will take into account how many accidents there are per year in your hometown, and this information could affect how much you pay monthly in premiums.

2. You Have Traffic Citations or Past Accidents

The cleaner your record, the less you will pay in insurance premiums each month. Even if you get a speeding ticket, this could cause your insurance premiums to go up. This is why it is important that you drive safely, since there are safe-driver discounts with almost every insurance provider.

In addition, if you have been in an accident and have had to access your insurance policy, you should expect your premiums to go up. Of course, this should never prevent you from accessing your policy if you need to, but many people choose to pay out of pocket for a simple fix because doing so will cost less than accessing the policy and then paying more over time in premiums.

3. More Than One Person Is Driving the Car

If you are the only person driving the car, then there is less of a chance that you will get in a car accident. But if you, your spouse, and your teenager are all driving the car, then there is a higher chance that there will be an accident, and so the insurance company may raise your premiums.

As you can see, all of these reasons can raise your premiums, but this is not necessarily a bad thing. You are still getting great coverage through your auto insurance provider. Contact companies like Central Florida Insurance Agency of Town 'N' Country to see what rates you can get in your situation.
